Our Program at a Glance
As the primary care shortage continues in the U.S., Advanced Practice Clinicians have been stepping up to the plate, providing high quality and compassionate primary care. The APSNR Program will train Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in a community health center setting, immersing residents in a vigorous 13-month program.

The program includes primary care encounters common in a safety net setting as well as regularly scheduled didactic education. Our preceptors are primary care providers who work at our health center. Our program focuses primarily on adult safety net chronic disease management. Also included in our patient panels are opportunities in transgender health, healthcare for the homeless, HIV care, management of severe and persistent mental illness, pediatrics, and women's health. This training will lead to a better prepared clinician, specifically one who will continue to serve in a community health center or other safety net setting - preferably in North Carolina.

Resident positions will be available at WNCCHS each year beginning in the Fall. To be considered for these positions you must submit your completed application packet. The Selection Committee will make final decisions for the upcoming year.

Residents are considered full-time employees with many of the benefits of employment including paid time off, health insurance, dental insurance, continuing education stipend, licensing fees, and opportunities for student loan repayment via NHSC.
